Dorothy ::ADOPTED::

Along with several of our rescued and incoming pups, Dorothy and 60+ dogs were found locked away this winter in a hoarding situation outside of Asan, South Korea. Over the past several years the dogs were left to breed and their numbers grew into the hundreds. At least half of the dogs perished due to the horrific conditions they were forced to live in. Many died from illness, neglect, dog fights, and also from human consumption.

The hoarders were reported to the city and slowly dogs are being pulled out and placed into the city shelter. Dorothy and 23 other dogs were brought to the city shelter in January. Dorothy has spent the entire year in the city shelter and her first time ever in a loving home is here in Portland.

A few of our favorite Dorothy things…

Dorothy is growing more brave each day! Her spunky, lil’ personality is starting to shine through and she’s making huge strides. Dorothy is incredibly patient, gentle, and shows no signs of food or toy aggression. Her crate is her cozy place and she loves dog beds scattered around the home for her to choose from.

Even when feeling shy she will accept ear rubs and butt scratches as long as she’s approached slowly. Sometimes she’ll flop over for belly rubs. Proceed with caution though; once you start she won’t let you stop!

Dorothy’s tiny underbite and expressive ears melt our hearts. She looks like a grannie and acts like one too! Right now she spends her days sunbathing in her foster’s yard and taking naps.

A few things Dorothy is working on…

As Dorothy goes through this major life transition from living in a chaotic shelter to a loving home, she needs time to trust the people in her life.

Initially Dorothy was terrified of being on a leash. She’d freeze and was incapable of taking a single step. With a lot of desensitization training we now have her walking on leash! Don’t get too excited, she can only walk short distances so far but with continued training we think she'd enjoy regular walks.

She is uncomfortable with sudden movements and loud sounds. Car rides and other types of transporting bring out A LOT of anxiety for her. Quick, daily drives are needed to desensitize her to being in the car.

Dorothy’s tiny body has been through trauma and she needs extra TLC and love to get her feeling and looking like her best self. (please see her medical notes)

The ideal family for Dorothy would have the following:

- The patience to wait for her to come out of her shell

- A chill & calm household so she can live her grannie lifestyle in peace with zoomies welcomed when she’s feeling feisty

- A secure, fenced yard so she can sunbathe and enjoy the fresh air

- Another friendly, small animal in the home to help build her confidence

- The eagerness to provide her with TLC and veterinary care to keep her healthy
