Haroo ::ADOPTED::
Haroo is another one of the 60+ dogs that were found locked away this winter in a hoarding situation outside of Asan, South Korea. Over the past several years the dogs were left to breed and their numbers grew into the hundreds. At least half of the dogs perished due to the horrific conditions they were forced to live in. Many died from illness, neglect, dog fights, and also from human consumption.
The hoarders were reported to the city and slowly dogs are being pulled out and placed into the city shelter. Haroo and 23 other dogs were brought to the city shelter in January and a few months ago he was placed in a loving foster home in South Korea while he was treated for heartworm.
We were able to match Haroo with a wonderful foster family in Portland who also has two small children like his fosters in Korea. He settled in right away and they are helping him work on his anxiety with a ton of love and patience. They chose to adopt him!
A few of our favorite Haroo things from his family…
Haroo is such a polite, quiet little gentleman/coyote. He has never had an accident even immediately after arrival from his flight and long drive. He warmed our hearts the first time he saw the girls and it was obviously love at first sight! He walks very well on leash and his favorite part of the day is when he gets to explore outside with lots of sniffing but he knows when it's time to heel and "follow the leader" as well (even when the leader is a 7 year old). Recently he is getting pretty interested in the squirrels in the neighborhood and tried to "play" with one today! Even though so far he is not very interested in playing with other dogs he likes to give a calm hello and some sniffs and gives a quiet growl or walks away if the energy gets too intense for him. Nights are his jam; he loves to curl up on the couch next to his girls with lots of head and ear scratches! Then he sleeps all night in his kennel!
A few things Haroo is working on things from his family…
We are still working on training and especially the “place” command. He doesn't like his training cot yet but now that we found some treats he loves hopefully things move along with training! Indoors he is still very anxious about loud sounds, bright lights or quick movements but he never barks and is working on finding ways to be calm in our house (like chilling out in areas with no reflections/rainbows).
