Min-ji ::AdoptED::
In November of 2021 three friendly, itchy puppies were found on the street in the Gokgyo-ri Province of Asan, South Korea. They appeared to be abandoned and were eager for help from their rescuers.
They were brought to the local, high kill pound in pretty rough shape where their brother quickly found an adopter, but Minji and Minsu were left behind. To make a tough situation even worse, there was a parvo outbreak in the pound so the most vulnerable dogs were not taken out of their kennels or touched by a human for three months to reduce the spread. Minji and Minsu were unable to socialize, see sunlight, or be comforted for that entire time until we offered to help. 💔 Once we had their flight booked, our amazing rescue partner took them to vet visits and housed them in their facility leading up to the flight.
Now that the pups have arrived in Portland they’ve been gaining strength and life experience to help prepare them for their forever families. They are confident alongside another animal but are still working on being brave alone. See Minji’s journey on our Instagram page here.
A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE Minji THINGS FROM her FOSTER mom…
Minji is a total love bug, and once warmed up to you she will try and lick your face off. She’s all about the kisses! She sometimes barks when meeting someone new, especially if there is not a distraction around like another dog, but her bark is due to nerves and she quickly gets over it. She’s been curious but gentle with my two cats at home so I feel comfortable to say she will do well in a home with cats. She plays very well with other dogs and loves to tease and be chased in the yard. If another pup is not around to play with, backyard playtime is a clear second favorite activity of hers. She does a great job playing a consistent game of fetch with her favorite stick and often happily zooms around the yard when we are out there.
She’s very food motivated and attentive the majority of the time when you call her. She clearly understands “sit”, “here” and “nope” and is a quick learner with consistency. She has potty training down and only goes outside. There was no training curve with her on this one she's been great from the start! She is remarkably quiet in her crate at night however she has shown signs of separation anxiety in her crate a couple times when I’ve left the house for a few hours during the day. The separation anxiety when I leave has not been consistent as at other times she’s been relaxed and quiet in her crate while I was gone but this will most likely be an opportunity to work on.
As far as toys she loves her wood dog chew and will literally grind it down to a stump within a week or two so it's good to have a back up chew toy as she has some serious chompers. She is not attached to her plush toys but will entertain herself with them every now and then if she cannot find her wood chew.
A FEW THINGS Minji IS WORKING ON FROM her FOSTER mom…
Minji needs a lot of patience and encouragement on walks as she is scared of passing cars and unexpected noises. Once a car gets her attention she gets anxious, her tail goes under, and she starts pulling to escape. However she’s much more confident with car distractions when she has a dog pal with her on the walk. Otherwise quieter streets have been much more successful than walking near busier areas.
As mentioned before, Minji is inconsistent with how she reacts in the crate when I'm gone. However, she's been well behaved more often than not so I’m hopeful that she will get better in this area with consistency with training and trust building. The few times she’s been stressed home alone she’s chewed on her bedding.
Minji can get car sick easily if you feed her before a car ride or if she’s stressed. As long as it’s a small meal well in advance of the trip she’ll typically be fine. She travels best in her crate vs. seatbelted in and will need more continued exposure to short, positive car rides to build up endurance for longer trips.
Within the first two weeks of her arrival, after Minji pooped she would try and eat it. I haven't seen her do this recently but it’s something to monitor so you can be prepared to pick up the poop asap before she gets the chance.
Threshold training. Minji sometimes is hesitant to walk through thresholds. To date she needs to be lifted in and out of the car and the entryway to my backyard has a few steep steps which, at the moment, are very intimidating to her. However the front steps that are more gradual are no issue and she easily goes up and down.
THE IDEAL FAMILY FOR Minji WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
A fenced yard.
A friendly, already trained dog in the home or access to active dogs for frequent playdates and companionship.
A lot of patience, eagerness to continue training, consistency, & lots of love!

Medical notes:
Overall, Minji needs some TLC to build her strength and body fat % up.
Minji arrived with scarring around the edges of her ears which may have been a reaction to vaccinations before the flight or possibly a bacterial infection while living at the high kill pound. It doesn’t seem to bother her and has been slowly disappearing, but it will be important to keep an eye on it.
