Mochi ::Adopted::

Mochi was found wandering the street alone with a horrible skin condition. Her tiny size and weak immune system made her very vulnerable in the city shelter. Mochi was lucky enough to be cared for by a wonderful foster in South Korea and is, again, in a wonderful foster home here in Portland. Her hair started growing back in with a lot of love and care. Mochi is now healthy and spunky as heck.

A few of our favorite Mochi things from her foster mom…

Mochi is super tiny and sweet and she adores people! She loves to be cuddled or sleep close to where you are and will happily rest on her blanket/in her crate nearby while you’re home. She accepts all forms of pets, tickles, pokes, and belly rubs and never says no to affection! Her ideal place to sit is on your lap or next to you on the couch. She loves to be held/carried but is learning to be a polite big girl while her four feet are on the ground.

She is an independent lady and can entertain herself with a toy (or three). Will also fetch and bring a toy right back to you! Mochi also does a great job sleeping through the night in her crate and will take naps in her crate during the day. It's her safe space!

She’s almost 100% potty trained and will get your attention when she needs to go outside. Typically goes out about every 3-4 hours during the day and can hold it overnight 7-8 hours.

She is a smart cookie and learns fast when she's focused (she is very motivated by treats). She went from a complete fear of stairs to running up three flights without prompt in about 2.5 days. She is smart, brave and fearless!

Mochi is a rockstar when we ride in the car; either in her crate or buckled safely in with her seatbelt in the backseat. She is a great travel companion and loves to have the windows rolled down!

A few things Mochi is working on…

Her small dog syndrome. aka her big personality that puffs up and barks at other animals, loud noises, and other new things. She is a protector and needs focused training to learn trust and politeness!

Leash training and learning her role to follow vs. lead when out on walks.

Being home alone and working through her separation anxiety. She has made progress in this space but could still improve. She does best in her crate when she's extra tired but needs to learn to be home alone (and quiet!) for longer periods of time.

She is still losing her baby teeth and can get a little mouthy when playing. She loves her chew toys and often just needs a redirect to focus that chewing energy! She will try and chew carpet, leaves, grass, or other things on the ground if left unattended.

The ideal family for Mochi would have the following:

  • The time to build trust and work on her training

  • The willingness to be firm with boundaries with the goal to desensitize her + help her overcome her small-dog-syndrome

  • A family that has someone home often//a flexible schedule to spend lots of time with her and work on her separation anxiety + training

  • A home without other animals or small children
