RIri ::adopted::

Riri is one of the 60+ dogs that were found locked away during the winter of 2019 in a hoarding situation outside of Asan, South Korea. Over the past several years the dogs were left to breed and their numbers grew into the hundreds. At least half of the dogs perished due to the horrific conditions they were forced to live in. Many died from illness, neglect, dog fights, and also from human consumption. The hoarders were reported to the city government and very slowly dogs are being pulled out and placed into the city shelter when there is space available.

Riri and 23 other dogs were brought to the city shelter in January of 2020. After Wildhearts offered an opportunity for her to join the rescue, she moved to an amazing foster home last August in South Korea with her bff Ana. There they learned how to be a part of a family, Riri’s ringworm was treated, and we were able to learn more about their many quirks. Riri is such a loyal sweetheart and we are so excited to find her a forever family committed to working on her fears in new situations and around new people!

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE Riri THINGS FROM her FOSTER family…

Riri is a true sweetheart. She is a tender and very loving dog who would just think the absolute world of the family who would let her be part of their home. She loves a good scratching, petting and gentle contact in general. She could probably be pet for days and not grow tired of it. Also high on her list of primary interests are mornings (in general) when the family just wakes up and she is incredibly playful and excited to head out for the morning walk. She's a big fan of breakfast. She is equally a fan of dinner with a high to moderate enthusiasm for dog treats depending on where they fall on her dog treat power rankings. As she has adjusted to living at our house, she has shown to be more and more playful with us as well as our dog who is about her size. Her favorite game with her foster dog brother is a moderation of chase but where she gets to tap out and sit down whenever she wishes. She is also a fantastic and enthusiastic door greeter, making you feel very loved and missed as you come back home (even if maybe you only went to re-park the car).

A big part of building our relationship with Riri has certainly included being patient and working with her as she makes the adjustment to her new circumstances. Riri was very anxious when she first arrived at our home from an overseas flight. Although she has become a more confident and expressive dog since then, there are still plenty of moments when she becomes quite anxious. This is particularly true in new and unfamiliar circumstances for her. It's a transitioning period for her, and Riri would be best fit in a home that approaches her with that understanding and will help her as she adjusts.

A FEW THINGS Riri IS WORKING ON FROM her FOSTER family…

Riri is easy going on a leash. She doesn't tug too much and is responsive to direction commands. In unfamiliar circumstances is where she sometimes loses confidence and may be reluctant to follow your lead.

She is house trained, but she has the occasional accident. These usually happen first thing in the morning or after a stressful situation which seems to throw her off balance, and so she is working on being more consistent with going outside.

Riri is crate trained, but we would not say that she has a fond relationship with her crate. So, Riri is working on becoming more comfortable being in her crate when we are away or not in the same room.

When in new social situations Riri needs a lot of time to warm up to people she doesn’t know. She sometimes appears comfortable and friendly but does not like touch from strangers. In these situations she has been know to bark or growl if someone reaches to touch her even if she has spent time with them alongside her humans. That being said, she’s very loyal and loving to her humans.

Riri gets overwhelmed in social gatherings and loud, running children have been known to agitate her. Exposing her to more social gatherings alongside consistent training will help her work through this.
