Sam ::ADOPTED::

In January of this year, Sam was roaming the streets as a stray and he made his way to the city pound in Asan, South Korea. He was only 8lbs & all alone.

We came across Sam’s intake photo right away and have been trying to secure his flight for months! After spending time at the city pound (growing like a weed) a wonderful family in South Korea stepped up to foster him. Alongside their resident pups, Sam reminded us of Buddy the Elf; everything was a bit too small for this big and goofy puppy. From his incredibly long eyelashes down to his Clydesdale feet, we are obsessed with this boy!

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE Sam THINGS FROM his FOSTER family…

Looking for a happy-go-lucky but sometimes mischievous goofball of a puppy?
Well then, Sam is your guy!

As far as puppies go, Sam is pretty easy-going. On a typical day he goes on a morning and evening walk, plays with toys or with his foster dog brother, and then chills on the couch or in his bed for the rest of the day.

His puppy energy is in full effect when he tries to get the other animals in his foster home to play with him. He gets along great with other dogs, as long as they don’t mind him nipping at their ears in an attempt to get them to play, and he really, REALLY loves cats, like maybe a little too much. Sam’s dream would probably be to have a playful, dog-friendly cat in his forever home who will actually want to interact with him. He has spent the last few weeks living with two older, grouchy cats who hiss and swat at him, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to befriend them every single day. Sam has also spent supervised time with our tiny foster kittens. Unsurprisingly, he fell in love with them, but he was pretty disappointed that he couldn’t play with them since they were 2lbs and he is a whopping 27lbs.

Sam loves spending time outside. He walks well on a leash and is an excellent companion on car rides although he does think he’s a tiny baby who needs to be lifted into the car. One of our favorite things about Sam is that he always finds a stick he likes on every walk that he will carry for a few blocks before dropping it or switching it with an even better stick!

Sam is smart and extremely food motivated which makes training him pretty easy. He already has a good grasp on ‘sit’ and ‘down,’ so he has been working on ‘place’ training and kennel training while in his Portland foster home. His first few days of kennel training were rough and full of howling and whining, but he has quickly become an expert at sleeping in his kennel at night or when he needs to stay at home unsupervised. He is also fully potty trained!

A FEW THINGS Sam IS WORKING ON FROM his FOSTER family…

Sam is a gentle dog who gives kisses and paws at you for attention instead of being mouthy, but he can get overly excited and that’s when he starts to jump. The jumping has really only been an issue at mealtimes and on walks when he sees other dogs that he wants to meet.

Sam also barks quite a bit! He has gotten a lot better as he has settled into his foster home over the last few weeks, but it is still an issue we are working on. He barks at the sound of footsteps going up or down stairs and he will sometimes bark at the men in his foster family. He is very well behaved in public and never barks, but he is nervous around people he doesn’t know initially if they are trying to interact with him. He may bark when approached directly, but he will cautiously accept treats from new people.
