Tony ::ADOPTED::
In August of 2020, the rescue group @we.a.c.t discovered Tony’s mom (Tiki, the corgi) at an abandoned house in South Korea. Alongside Tiki they also found alive two male dogs; a corgi (Taka) and a malinois mix (Logan) who survived years of neglect and were left to starve & die alone. More dogs were found but had not survived. Their decaying bodies were left next to these helpless pups.
Tiki was very pregnant and they had assumed Taka, the other corgi found, was the dad. The owner had purchased Tiki and Taka to breed them but when Tiki gave birth they quickly realized that the dad was actually Logan (who lived on a 6ft chain for 5 years).
Tiki became a mother to 7 puppies surrounded by love. Her pups, once weaned, joined amazing foster families in Korea. Each puppy was named after a day of the week. Tony’s given name is Saturday but is called Tony due to the similar pronunciation of Saturday in Korean.
Tiki, Taka, and Logan have all found homes and the puppies are on their journey to find families now that they are old enough. Tony is such a baby moose! For a 5 month old puppy this guy is HUGE and we are so fascinated by his gentle and calm demeanor.
A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE Tony THINGS FROM his FOSTER family…
The most accurate description of Tony would be a goofy, clumsy, lovable baby moose. He is truly a gentle giant. He was born and raised in foster care, and it’s so obvious that he has never known anything other than love. He has such a sweet, calm demeanor, which makes it easy to forget he’s only 5 months old. Unless he’s on a walk or trying to get his dog and cat foster siblings to play with him, he’s usually passed out on a bed or hanging out on the couch with his foster family. This boy honestly loves nothing more than a big, fuzzy dog bed. He is not very mouthy like most puppies, but he does appreciate the occasional frozen carrot to chew on to help soothe his gums as his adult teeth come in. He enjoys playing fetch and often tries to stomp on the ball with one of his paws as it rolls past him; he almost always misses it. He is smart, treat motivated, and pretty easy to train. He would make a wonderful companion for a first time dog parent or anyone who is ready to care for a large dog.
A FEW THINGS Tony IS WORKING ON FROM his FOSTER family…
Tony learned all his basic commands and was potty trained at his foster home in South Korea. In his Portland foster home, he has been working on kennel and leash training. It took him almost a week to adjust to sleeping in a kennel, but he can now make it through the night without whining. Although he tolerates it, he is still not a big fan of his kennel and may backslide on some of his training while transitioning into his new home. Tony has made SO much progress with his leash work, but he still has a ways to go before he perfects it. While he used to pull the entire time on his walks, he is much calmer now, especially on quiet walks around the park. He really only pulls when he loses focus over new smells and sights or if he sees another dog that he wants to meet. Since Tony is going to be such a large dog, his adopter will need to be consistent with his leash training.
THE IDEAL FAMILY FOR Tony WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
A fenced yard.
Another mellow, friendly, and already trained animal in the home or access to frequent doggy playdates.
Patience, time to train, consistency, and lots of love!
