Wuni ::Adopted::
Wuni was abandoned with his sibling at a garbage incineration site in the middle of winter and they both hid under the garbage to keep from freezing. Wuni’s sister was adopted right away and he was cared for at a loving foster home in South Korea for most of the year. Due to his size it took several months of flight booking attempts to finally get him to the US! He’s currently in a loving foster home here in Portland, Oregon.
A few of our favorite Wuni things from his foster family…
Wuni is an exuberant, and affectionate boy whose highest ambition is to be someone’s lap dog and sprinting partner. He loves snuggling with his foster parents, running, exploring the neighborhood on walks and playing with his chew toys and tug-rope. He still has a lot of his puppy energy for play and is very interested in animals he meets, like his foster family’s cat, and neighborhood dogs.
Wuni is very well housebroken, preferring to go out in the yard off-leash rather than on walks; he’s had no accidents at all in his foster home even after his flight from Korea. He also does great in the car with a seat belt, though he still needs to learn to get in the car out of his own volition. He’s quickly gotten to the point of being able to sleep in his kennel without barking during the night. He’s making great strides on “positive” commands and is eager to please for training treats, though his differentiation of English commands will benefit from additional practice. Wuni’s beautiful, apricot-tinged white coat sheds quite a bit, so get that brush and vacuum ready.
A few things wuni is working on…
Wuni has separation anxiety manifested mainly through his loud bark, when his foster parents leave the house or close him out of a room with them for more than a few seconds. He’s been making great incremental progress on short durations when under the “place” command, but mitigating his tendency to bark loudly will likely require high consistency and careful training.
Wuni has a willful temperament and can be a bit of an attention hog due to being raised as an only dog with his previous foster family. He tends to get “mouthy” at times when playing or when stressed. He loves other dogs and would benefit from a household with a confident and calm adult dog who can help him learn the ropes of life at his new home. Wuni is still learning to follow vs. lead when on walks – there’s just so much to explore that he’ll need firm consistent training on this as well.
The ideal family for Wuni would have the following:
An active lifestyle outside of just daily walks. He’d make a great jogging partner!
A calm, adult dog in the household
Time to work on training daily
