Yuha ::Adopted::
Little Yuha, born on the street in South Korea, was spotted running loose with a pack of wild, adult dogs. A civilian set out a large trap for all of the dogs and only Yuha was found caught the next morning. She was living at the city shelter, completely terrified, for months before transitioning to a loving foster home in Korea for two weeks. Now Yuha is thriving in another wonderful foster home here in Portland.
A few of our favorite Yuha things…
- Excellent in the car (either with seatbelt clip or in her kennel)
- So brave! She can quickly overcome fears with a little patience (ex: approaching and getting into/out of cars)
- Nonreactive and rarely barks unless she gets upset being in “place” or in her kennel (but doesn’t cry in kennel at night anymore)
- Have yet to see her scared of any noises (great with cars driving by, carpet cleaners, power tools, etc)
- The best nap buddy!
- From the tiniest kittens to big horses (literally saw a horse on a walk and she was so fascinated lol), Yuha LOVES other animals
- And we can’t forget her white toes (aka French tips) and perfected puppy eyes!
Yuha instantly bonded with her foster family’s dog who helped her learn the basics of living in a home, like walking up and down stairs. Yuha has gained so much confidence having a dog friend and now she is ready to find a home of her own. After two weeks in foster care, Yuha has gone from being too scared to leave her kennel to wanting to be friends with everyone she meets. She is the smartest pup, as she quickly learned sit, down, shake, and how to walk on a leash.
When she’s comfortable, she shows her more playful side and does the cutest happy prances around the house. She may even show off her super speed zoomies! She loves mini tennis balls and small plush toys that squeak, but she refuses to play fetch, tug of war, etc. Instead, she’d rather roll tennis balls around with her paws and nose or throw her plush toys in the air.
A few things Yuha is working on…
- Only goes potty in backyard (rarely ever on walks) but wouldn’t really matter if adopter had yard
- Can sometimes be weird with certain flooring (linoleum or other “slick” material)
- Is shy around some new people at first, but accepts touch even when scared
While Yuha LOVES other dogs, she may do best in a home where she is the only dog so that she can continue to work on strengthening her connections with humans without distraction. She would love a home with confident cats and humans who are willing to take her on puppy playdates.
Yuha is very smart but that often gets her into some trouble (getting into things she’s not supposed to). A puppy-proofed house is a must, but with a morning and evening walk Yuha turns into a total couch potato for a large portion of the day. She would also benefit from continuing to work on staying in “place” to help her gain independence.
The ideal family for Yuha would have the following:
A home without dogs
A home with friendly, active cats
Fenced backyard
Patience while she acclimates and learns to trust
The willingness to provide her with puppy playdates
