Lucky ::Adopted::
In January of 2020, Lucky’s rescuer @imjihye1222 found several dogs chained up as she walked down a path in Namyangju City, South Korea. Their owner neglected them so Julia made it her mission to visit the dogs every few days with food and water. Even with the horrible environment the dogs lived in, they were so thrilled for her visits and showed her unconditional love.
After Wildhearts agreed to take in the pups (and after nearly a year of Julia caring for them & promoting their adoption in South Korea) she finally convinced their owner to give them up. When she went to pick up the dogs she discovered that the owner had sold them to a dog meat farm. She rushed to find them and luckily was able to get them back before it was too late.
Julia took Lucky (and recently adopted Garth) to the vet for vaccines and an assessment before placing him in a private no-kill shelter where he continued to live outside. An amazing foster family stepped up and gave Lucky a chance to temporarily join their family and show him how to “dog”. There he finally slept in a warm bed and was able to gain some weight. Lucky is quite the catch and wonderful with adults, kids, dogs, and cats (just not birds). He has a lot of anxious energy and showing him how to slow down has been our main goal during the foster period.
A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE Lucky THINGS FROM his FOSTER family…
Lucky is big ball of goofy love. He is very curious and enjoys walks, interacting with other dogs, doing wild zoomies, and getting lots of attention, pets, and love from his humans. His floppy ears and cuddly neck roll are irresistible!
Lucky enjoys exploring outside and is an absolute joy to walk with his special leash that helps him to not pull. He is very interested in listening to and spotting birds – just part of being a Pointer – so expect to do some bird watching from a safe distance.
He enjoys chew toys which help calm him, and will gladly “chill” with a frozen peanut butter kong. He also really likes soft toys and does lots of zoomies, bucks, and hops with them, although toys can get “loved to death” after a round or two. Lucky is happy to play and wrestle with other friendly dogs, although it is helpful if the dog is older and can cue Lucky that it is time for a break. When Lucky is excited in the morning, for meals or wants to play, he’ll do adorable yowls and sing you a love song. He is quiet otherwise and rarely barks.
Lucky is very smart but can be stubborn. He knows sit, down, stay, leave it and kennel. He responds to eye contact and hand gestures more than verbal commands currently. He is very food motivated, so treats usually lead to an immediate response. Sometimes you just need to wait Lucky out. Patience and calm are the most effective tools with Lucky as is able to read body language and mood extremely well.
He is respectful of cats and is fine with car rides, although not his favorite. He is kennel trained and will sleep through the night and take a nap during the day there happily. He is also okay being crated if his humans need to run errands.
A FEW THINGS Lucky IS WORKING ON FROM his FOSTER family…
Lucky is working on being calm as he can get anxious and pace. He loves having a routine, working on training commands, and staying on his “place” spot. Sometimes Lucky can whine if he cannot see his people but he won’t if you are visible and he has a toy or chew item to keep him busy.
Lucky LOVES any and all food so it is extremely important not to leave any food out as his height and super smeller nose makes anything on a counter accessible. Food left out will surely disappear if you’re not keeping an eye on Lucky.
THE IDEAL FAMILY FOR Lucky WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
A fenced yard.
A calm house with humans that enjoy outdoor time, walks, and hikes.
Another calm, older dog or having Lucky be the only dog in the home (with regular doggy playdates).
Lucky will need a calm and patient family to continue his training and to reinforce consistent expectations as he's a smart guy who knows what to do!
Did we mention the word “calm” enough?
